About the Virtual Power Plant plan

PGE's Virtual Power Plant (VPP) connects customer energy resources, including smart devices, electric vehicles, solar, storage, and standby generation, into a coordinated portfolio that helps serve growing energy needs while making better use of existing infrastructure. The 2027-2028 Virtual Power Plant Multi-Year Plan describes how PGE will expand customer participation, improve operational capabilities, and grow a dependable resource that delivers value for customers, the grid, and the broader energy system.

Today, PGE's VPP includes more than 230,000 participating customers and approximately 600 MW of flexible and distributed energy resources, making it one of the largest utility-operated portfolios of its kind in the region. VPP resources support more than 500 dispatches each year, help shift enough energy during peak events to power a city the size of Salem, enable the largest number of solar installations of Pacific Northwest utilities, and have made PGE a national leader in customer participation and distributed resource adoption. Through this plan, PGE proposes to grow the portfolio to more than 950 MW by the end of 2028, increasing the value customer-owned resources provide to customers, the grid, and the broader energy system.
