Dispatchable Standby Generation

Lower your maintenance costs and support energy grid reliability when it matters most.

Put your backup power to work without adding to your workload

If you already have a generator or battery onsite, it’s there to keep your operations running when the unexpected happens.

The Dispatchable Standby Generation program builds on that investment. With DSG, your system is optimized through our maintenance program, so you're ready in the event of an outage and can support the electric grid. Along the way, PGE helps manage the ongoing care and operation of your equipment.

Benefits for your business

Instead of sitting idle most of the year, your backup system becomes something you can rely on more consistently, without adding more to your plate.

With DSG, you can expect:

  • Less hands-on maintenance: We handle routine testing, inspections and help address repairs when needed.

  • Lower operating costs: For eligible systems, we cover fuel and reduce the cost of keeping your equipment ready.

  • More consistent use of your system: Regular operation can help keep your equipment in better working condition over time.

How the program works

When demand on the energy grid is high, PGE may remotely dispatch your generator or battery to discharge electricity and send it back to the grid.

Your system remains ready to support your operations during an outage. Outside of those moments, we coordinate regular testing and operation to make sure everything is functioning as it should.

If something isn’t performing as expected, we step in to help troubleshoot and make repairs, so your system stays reliable.

In some cases, upgrades may be needed to allow your system to safely operate alongside the energy grid and export power.

Is DSG a good fit for you?

This program may be worth exploring if your business:

  • Has existing, or plans to incorporate backup generation or battery storage

Why it matters

Backup systems help keep you up and running when it matters most. With DSG, they’re maintained, tested and used more regularly, which can help improve long-term reliability.

At the same time, when your system runs, it helps reduce strain on the energy grid and supports energy reliability across the community.
