Reducing Wildfire Risk, Year After Year

PGE has a robust vegetation management program to help prevent wildfires, protect communities and keep power reliable.

Focused protection for higher-risk areas

Some areas face greater wildfire risk due to weather, terrain and vegetation growth. Our vegetation management teams work in these locations annually to help reduce wildfire risk and improve reliability.

How it works

Our proactive approach to vegetation management leads to fewer outages and stronger grid performance in higher-risk areas. By focusing on these areas every year, we can help prevent trees from contacting power lines, reduce outages during fire season and improve access for emergency repairs.

Annual inspections and targeted action

  • Foresters patrol higher-risk areas each year before fire season, with detailed inspections every two years. We also monitor year-round for hazards.

Advance notice before we start

  • If work is planned in your area, you’ll get an official notice in the mail. That’s the best time to contact us with questions about timing or scope.

  • Our trained crews work efficiently and with care for the environment because keeping communities safe is our top priority.

Protecting people, property and the environment

  • Depending on what we find, crews may:

    • Prune tree limbs to keep safe clearances.

    • Remove dead, diseased or unstable trees.

    • Clear brush under lines.

    • Use approved treatments to control regrowth.

  • We follow industry standards and work closely with landowners, agencies and communities to complete this work safely and respectfully.

Working together for safety

  • We coordinate with state agencies, counties, municipalities and landowners to ensure our work supports public safety, respects property and protects natural surroundings.

  • If crews need to enter private property, we’ll notify you in advance. In some cases, state-mandated easements allow us to access and maintain the electric system for safety.
