Join the Collaboration's Smart Thermostat study

Saving is easy when you're paid to upgrade.

Step 1: Schedule your free Energy Savings Checkup to determine if you’re eligible for a free commercial smart thermostat and installation ($599 value).

Step 2: Earn $60 twice a year by enrolling your new commercial smart thermostat into PGE's Energy Partner Smart Thermostat program.

Step 3: We'll also pay you $50 each month just for joining the Collaboration’s Smart Thermostat study after you're enrolled into our Energy Partner Smart Thermostat program, so you can watch your savings stack up to $720 in your first year.

General requirements:

  • Each thermostat must control a single-zone HVAC system with a dedicated supply fan.

  • Lodging sites, spaces operating 24/7 and semi-conditioned areas aren't eligible.

  • Large open spaces with multiple HVAC systems qualify if each has a dedicated thermostat.

  • A list of qualifying thermostats can be found here.

  • Self-installed thermostats may require post-install verification.

  • Installation requirements:

    • Heating setback: at least 10°F below the occupied setpoint.

    • Cooling setback: at least 5°F above the occupied setpoint.

    • Fan schedule set to "auto" during unoccupied hours.

    • Manual overrides limited to two hours or less.

Additional requirements (if applicable):

  • HVAC systems serving the same space must have matching setpoints, schedules and dead bands.

  • Heat pumps with backup resistance heat must be lock-out enabled with proper setpoints.

  • Existing demand-controlled ventilation or advanced rooftop controls must remain active.

Additional energy improvements, incentives and requirements

Requirements:

  • Replace non-functional or aging (15+ years) heating equipment, regardless of fuel type.

  • Functional equipment not yet at the end of its life doesn't qualify.

  • Eligible space: offices, retail and restaurants with a total conditioned space under 10,000 sq. ft.

  • Previously unheated or newly added spaces qualify.

  • Conditioned space must be enclosed and not open to other conditioned spaces if the space served is a part of a larger building.

  • Equipment made after 1/1/2023 must be AHRI-rated with SEER2 of at least 20 and HSPF2 greater than 9.5.

Requirements:

  • Existing system must have a nominal cooling capacity of at least 5 tons and must have a single supply fan or motor.

  • Systems with variable frequency drives (VFDs) or economizers don't qualify.

  • Installed equipment must include VFD and controller for variable-speed fan operation.

  • Installed equipment controls must be on BPA qualifying product list.

  • Business must operate at least 2,500 hours annually — 3,500 for gas-heated sites.

Requirements:

  • Existing insulation must be R-9 or less.

  • New insulation must be at least R-25 or fill the cavity.

  • Insulation must be in areas separating conditioned and unconditioned spaces.

  • Insulation between conditioned spaces isn't eligible.

  • Damaged or missing insulation must be prequalified and documented by an installer.

  • Semi-conditioned or semi-heated spaces don't qualify for an incentive.

Requirements:

  • Existing insulation must be R-6 or less.

  • New insulation must be at least R-20 or fill the cavity.

  • Installation must be in areas separating conditioned and unconditioned spaces.

  • Insulation between conditioned spaces isn't eligible.

  • Damaged or missing insulation must be prequalified and documented by an installer.

  • Semi-conditioned or semi-heated spaces do not qualify for an incentive.

Requirements:

  • Existing insulation must be R-5 or less.

  • New insulation must be at least R-30. When R-30 insulation requirement cannot be met due to existing site restrictions, a minimum of R-15 must be achieved.

  • Installation must be in areas separating conditioned and unconditioned spaces.

  • Insulation between conditioned spaces isn't eligible.

  • Semi-conditioned or semi-heated spaces do not qualify for an incentive.

Requirements:

  • Must be installed by an Energy Trust of Oregon solar trade ally.

  • Receive a free analysis and bid to review additional eligibility requirements.
