What's an assessment and how much does it cost?
A Home Energy Score assessment looks at your home's energy efficiency during an in-person evaluation of its features. While these assessments typically cost up to $250, Collaboration customers can get theirs for free. The assessment helps us figure out which energy-saving steps and smart energy programs are best for your home.
What's involved in an assessment?
An authorized Home Energy Assessor from Community Energy Project will visit your home to inspect things like the foundation, insulation, walls, windows, and your heating, cooling and hot water systems. The assessment usually takes about an hour, but the length may vary depending on the size of your home.
How is my score generated?
During your assessment, the Home Energy Assessor will enter details about your home into the U.S. Department of Energy's Home Energy Score software. This software looks at how your home uses energy and gives it a score based on guidelines from the Department of Energy. It ensures your home's energy uses is compared fairly to others.
What does my Home Energy Score report include?
Your home's energy use will be ranked on a scale of one to ten. A score of five means average energy use and ten means your home is very energy-efficient.
Along with your score, you'll get:
Information on how your home uses energy based on its features (not your habits)
An estimate of how much energy you'll use each year
Suggestions for making your home more energy-efficient
What happens once I have my Home Energy Score?
After your assessment, CEP will give you a copy of your report. You'll also be able to access it online at the Green Building Registry. The report will include energy-saving upgrade recommendations and any incentives you're eligible for as part of the SGTB Collaboration.
