PORTLAND, Ore. — February 25, 2026 — For the 16th year*, Portland General Electric has held the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Laboratory of the Rockies’ number one spot for customer participation in a renewable program out of any electric utility in the country. Made possible by the more than 230,000 participants, PGE’s Green Future Program is the most successful utility green power program offered in the U.S.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the power of our customers,” said John McFarland, PGE vice president chief commercial and customer officer. “For 25 years, they have shown their dedication to clean, renewable energy and have made meaningful progress toward creating a more sustainable energy future for Oregon and beyond.”
PGE’s Green Future Program empowers business and residential customers to voluntarily support renewable energy equal to all or part of their energy use each month. Since 1999, PGE’s Green Future customers have supported more than 30 million MWh of renewable energy, which is the same amount of energy over 2,860 wind turbines would generate over a year*.
Additionally, the Green Future Choice Program held No. 1 rankings for the highest utility green pricing sale rates and the utility green pricing participation rate. The Green Future program was also ranked No. 1 for total utility green power sales with 2.8 million MWh sold in 2024.
PGE’s Green Future Renewable Development Fund also falls under the Green Future Program scope. This fund supports innovative and impactful small-scale renewable energy projects to provide clean energy to local communities. Since 1999, participants have funded more than $21 million to over 120 local renewable energy projects.
