Portland General Electric to provide rebates to customers who install EV chargers at home

New pilot program available now for PGE customers who own or lease an electric vehicle, up to $1,000 available to income-eligible customers

Feb. 02, 2021

Portland, Ore., – Recognizing that cost is often a barrier to electric vehicle ownership, Portland General Electric (NYSE: POR) today announced a pilot program that provides up to a $500 rebate for residential customers who own or lease an electric vehicle to install a charger at home. Income-eligible customers could qualify for up to a $1,000 rebate. The new rebate pilot program also rewards customers who allow PGE to shift their EV home charger’s energy use away from high demand times, when prices are high, or renewable resources are less available. This helps manage the grid and provides participants with a $25 reward at the end of each season. To learn more about the pilot program and to sign up, visit PGE’s website. Larry Bekkedahl, Vice President of Grid Architecture, Integration & System Operations at PGE, said, “Fueling electric vehicles at home is part of Oregon’s clean energy future. We are excited to partner with our customers on this new residential charging pilot program to encourage electric vehicle adoption while at the same time helping to manage the grid during times of high demand. Cleaner, cheaper electric transportation is here today, and we look forward to working with more and more customers to show that EVs are for everyone." Gary Exner, a PGE customer currently participating in the pilot program and President of the Oregon Electric Vehicles Association, said, “The Oregon Electric Vehicles Association has been promoting the adoption of EVs for over 25 years. The PGE Residential EV Charging program is a great step forward – it both helps balance the demand on the grid via smart charging and also makes home charging more accessible to EV owners with the rebate. A double win!”

PGE’s EV programs are valuable to Carr Nissan and our customers by offering a simple and rebated solution to home charging, which is often addressed by our sales staff to our customers. PGE’s program gives our sales staff a seamless segue into discussing home charging.” Greg Remensperger, Executive Vice President of the Oregon Auto Dealers Association (OADA), said, “The OADA appreciates and applauds the steps being taken by PGE to support electric vehicle sales at our auto dealers.
