The Smart Charging program rewards you for allowing PGE to pause your EV charging for a few hours every weekday when energy demand is high. Need a charger? You may get an EV charger and installation services through PGE+.
When you enroll in Smart Charging, you help make the electric grid more resilient and can earn ongoing bill credits. You may also be eligible for rebates on buying and installing a qualifying Level 2 home EV charger.
We call a Smart Charging Event daily on weekdays when energy use is at its peak. That means your charger will pause charging and start again once the event is over.
When you participate, you can earn a $25 bill credit at the end of a Smart Charging season, which runs from October to March and April to September, excluding holidays.
Remember, you're always in control and can opt out of an event through your charging app.
Keep your charger connected to the internet at least 50% of the time
Charge your EV at least 13 times
Participate in at least three events

Need a charger or installation?
Have a Tesla and charge it with a charger not on the qualified charger list?
After you submit your rebate application, you’ll receive instructions on how to connect your charger or vehicle to the program.
Enjoy seasonal bill credits when you successfully meet the participation requirements.
If you charge at home with a Tesla Wall Connector or another Level 2 charger not on our qualified charger list, you may still receive a $50 rebate plus ongoing bill credits with PGE Smart Charging powered by WeaveGrid.
How will I receive my rebate?
If you have a PGE+ installer set up your charger, you will get a rebate for the installation cost. If you didn't use a PGE+ installer, we will check your eligibility and send a check to the person listed on the application, as long as they're either the account holder or a co-account holder.
How will I get my PGE Smart Charging participation rewards?
Once we confirm that you meet the participation requirements for the season, we will apply a $25 credit to your PGE bill. This credit may be delayed based on the start of your billing cycle.
How many Smart Charging rebates am I eligible for?
PGE residential customers who own or lease an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid are eligible for either one charger rebate or one vehicle telematics rebate (Smart Charging powered by WeaveGrid) for each vehicle enrolled in the Smart Charging program. Each customer can enroll up to two vehicles.
Why aren't Tesla EV chargers on the Qualified Product List?
Unfortunately, Tesla chargers don't have the capability to participate in the Smart Charging program. However, all chargers on our qualified product list can work with Tesla vehicles with a Tesla J1772 charging adapter. All Tesla vehicles should come with this adapter. If you use this adapter, please follow all local and national codes, standards, regulations, or laws.
What if I'm not the account or co-account holder?
You need to be the account holder or co-account holder to participate in this program. If you’re not, please ask the account holder to apply or add you as a co-account holder.
I want to apply, but I've changed my name. Can I still qualify?
Yes. Just call Customer Service at 503-228-6322 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. We can help you update the name on the account. Make sure your name is updated before we can send you a rebate check.
How do I find my model number/product code and serial number?
ChargePoint owners can find their model and serial numbers in the "About Charger" section of the mobile app, or on a sticker near the cord at the bottom of the charger and on the outside of the shipping package.
FLO owners can find their model and serial numbers on a sticker at the bottom of the charging station next to the connector cable or in the FLO mobile app.
Wallbox owners can find their model and serial numbers in the "Configurations"> "Charger Info" section of the Wallbox app, or on the product label on the side of the charger.
Why do I need to hardwire my charger?
In April 2021, Oregon updated its electrical codes to follow the 2020 National Electric Code (NEC). These updates require that electric vehicle (EV) chargers be hardwired for safety. It is important to hire a licensed electrician to hardwire your charger according to the manufacturer's instructions.
A hardwired EV charger is directly connected to a dedicated branch circuit designated for the charger. Unlike plug-in chargers, hardwired chargers do not use plugs or receptacles. All qualified EV chargers must be hardwired to participate in the program, regardless of the type of plug used.
Do I need to hire an electrician to hardwire my EV charger?
You will be responsible for meeting all codes and standards, so we recommend hiring a licensed electrician. You can choose to get a qualified Level 2 charger installed from a PGE Approved Contractor and get instant rebates. PGE+ is a convenient one-stop shop that makes finding and/or installing a Level 2 EV charger amazingly easy.

If you plan to move, please email us to let us know if you want to keep participating with your current EV charger, plan to buy a new charger, or wish to unenroll from the pilot. If you buy a new charger, you can get a second rebate only if the new charger is for a different EV.
Can I participate in both Time of Day pricing and this pilot?
Yes! Time of Day can save you money if you have an EV. Learn more about our pricing or request information about this option on your rebate application and we'll contact you.
How do I unenroll from the pilot program?
To unenroll from the Smart Charging program, please email ResEvCharging@pgn.com and let us know. Your EV charger will stop participating in Smart Charging Events. If you qualify for a reward, you will receive it at the end of the season.
