Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X)

Through December 2027, PGE is conducting a small-scale Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Demonstration to explore how electric vehicles can do more than provide transportation. Using bidirectional charging technology, PGE can use your electric vehicle to power your home or send power back to the grid during periods of high demand, helping strengthen grid reliability and deliver savings for all utility customers. Participants will receive an up-front rebate to help cover installation costs of a bidirectional charging system and earn ongoing monthly reward payments. PGE will use the findings to evaluate the potential for future customer and grid services.

Demonstration details

âš¡ PGE will cover 75% of the total cost of the purchase and installation of a GM Energy V2H Bundle, up to $9,000 ($10,000 for customers living in a High Fire Risk Zone)

âš¡ Participants earn $30 per month in exchange for active participation

âš¡ Demonstration runs from October 2026 through December 2027

⚡ Enrollment is limited to the first 20 qualified customers, and we’ll keep a waitlist for anyone else who qualifies

How it works

Important: You must be offered and accept a spot in the Demonstration before purchasing a bidirectional charging system to qualify for the up-front rebate. Bidirectional systems purchased before you apply are not eligible for the rebate.

Submit your application

Review the eligibility requirements and PGE Terms and Conditions before submitting your application. Applying takes about five minutes and does not commit you to participating in the Demonstration. Enrollment closes March 1, 2027 or earlier, if all spots in the Demonstration are filled.

Eligibility review

PGE will review your information to confirm that you meet the Demonstration requirements and verify that a spot is available.

â €

You'll receive one of three notifications:

  • Approved – You have been offered a spot in the Demonstration and will be connected with an installer.

  • Waitlisted – If a spot becomes available, we’ll contact you. You’ll have 72 hours from the time you’re notified to claim it.

  • Denied – You don't meet the demonstration requirements and are not eligible to participate.

Get your installation quote

Within 30 days of PGE approval, you will meet with an installer at your home to receive an installation quote that includes the PGE rebate.

Confirm or decline your spot

Within 30 days of receiving your installation quote, you will need to confirm whether you want to accept or decline your spot in the Demonstration.

Activate your system

After your system is installed, your installer will submit an interconnection request for Permission to Operate. Once your system has received Permission to Operate from PGE, your bidirectional charger will be considered active and you will be a participant in the V2X Demonstration! Monthly incentives will be added to your bill by the following billing cycle.

Frequently asked questions

We want you to feel informed and supported throughout the Demonstration. The schedule below gives you an idea of what to expect, though activities may change as PGE learns more about the technology. We’ll let you know before each event and invite you to share feedback along the way.

  • Every day: PGE may adjust when your vehicle charges to avoid the peak- demand period from 5–9 p.m. Your vehicle will still charge based on the preferences you set.

  • A few times each month: PGE may use some of the energy stored in your vehicle to power your home for a limited time or send power back to the grid. You can set a minimum state-of-charge limit, so the battery never drops below that amount.

  • One to three times during the Demonstration: Before a planned backup-power test, PGE may ask your vehicle to charge fully by a specific date and time. This will help test how the system prepares to power your home during an outage.

The GM Energy V2H Bundle.

This Bundle includes the GM Energy PowerShift Charger and the GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit.

If you already have some or part of the Bundle installed at your home, you are still eligible to receive the installation rebate for the remaining equipment to complete your V2H Bundle.

V2X stands for "Vehicle-to-Everything." PGE conducts small-scale technical demonstrations to understand emerging technology and how it may be utilized to benefit the grid. In this Demonstration, PGE is exploring how customer-owned and operated electric vehicles could:

  • Reduce your home’s electricity use during times of high demand

  • Send electricity to the grid during times of high demand

  • Power your home during an outage

  • Support future grid services

After this short-term technical demonstration, PGE will evaluate the findings and determine the potential for this technology to be used on a larger scale.

Enrollment closes March 1, 2027 or earlier, if all spots in the Demonstration are filled.

The Demonstration is planned to be active through December 31, 2027. However, PGE reserves the right to end the Demonstration at any time.

The installation rebate can help cover the costs of purchasing and installing eligible bidirectional charging equipment required for the Demonstration.

Eligible expenses include:

  • 1 qualifying bidirectional charging system per customer/address, including but not limited to:

    • Bidirectional charger

    • Inverter

    • Transfer switch

    • Disconnect switch

    • Black start battery

  • Electrical upgrades needed to support the installation of the qualifying bidirectional charging system, including:

    • Electrical panel or subpanel upgrades

    • Sub-panel installation

    • Disconnect switch

    • Wiring and conduit

    • Required metering equipment upgrades

  • Permits and inspections required for the installation of eligible equipment

  • Labor performed by an approved, licensed electrician participating in the Demonstration, including time spent on design, permitting, and project management.

Expenses considered ineligible for the up-front installation rebate include, but are not limited to:

  • The purchase or lease of an electric vehicle

  • Ongoing subscription, software, or service fees

  • Costs associated with installing stationary energy storage or photovoltaic (solar) systems

  • Any other equipment not required for bidirectional charging functionality

  • GM equipment outside of the required bidirectional system (GM Energy V2H Bundle)

Note: All rebates and rewards are subject to Demonstration requirements, available funding, and program eligibility rules.

The demonstration is designed so participants can continue using their EV for everyday transportation. Any participation settings will take your driving needs into account whenever possible.

Participants can set their charge preferences, including a minimum State of Charge (SOC) limit, so you will always have control over your vehicle’s charge.

The demonstration is designed to study how energy can be managed more efficiently. Actual bill impacts will vary based on your home, vehicle, electricity use, and participation. Some customers may see opportunities to shift energy use or reduce costs, but individual results will differ.

PGE is offering a $30 per month participation reward for the duration of the Demonstration, designed to fully cover any negative bill impact you may see due to your participation.

Normal use of your vehicle’s main battery for backup power during outages, for reasonably selling energy back to the electrical grid, or for reasonable use as a mobile power source, such as the activities in this Demonstration, is covered by the standard GM warranty.

No. During an outage, your vehicle's stored energy is intended to support your home, not the electric grid. The Demonstration includes testing backup power capabilities and outage preparation features to help participants maintain power during outages when their equipment supports that functionality. PGE will not request that participating customers send power to the grid during an active outage.

Yes.

Your participation helps PGE learn how electric vehicles can support customers and the electric grid in the future. By participating, you'll help us better understand how bidirectional charging technology performs in real homes, how it can provide backup power, and how electric vehicles may help reduce energy demand during periods of high electricity use. The information gathered through this Demonstration will help shape potential future programs, products, and services for electric vehicle owners.

You, the customer, will retain ownership of the bidirectional system installed at your home.

If you are currently enrolled in the Demonstration and wish to unenroll, please note that you may be responsible for reimbursing some or all of the installation rebate. You will also forfeit any future monthly participation rewards. Please notify PGE at SmartGridTestBed@pgn.com of your intention to unenroll.
