The PGE Foundation believes creativity is a cornerstone of a well-rounded education, helping young people develop the critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills they need to thrive in school, in the workplace and in life.
Today, the PGE Foundation proudly announces a new round of grants supporting arts and culture access and hands-on creative learning experiences across Oregon.
These investments help ensure more students, especially those in groups that may be overlooked, can engage in transformative programs that spark imagination, build confidence, and connect them to new possibilities through the power of the arts.
Since its inception in 1997, PGE Foundation has awarded more than 700 grants totaling nearly $7.5 million to area arts organizations, fostering creative learning experiences and boosting local economies through arts and culture. This year, the foundation is awarding $335,000 to more than 25 area organizations to continue this vital work.
As part of its commitment to uplift communities in areas where Portland General Electric operates, grant funding was awarded to 10 organizations serving rural communities, including Caldera, a nonprofit organization located in Jefferson County, near Sisters, Oregon.Caldera’s mission is to inspire and support youth in rural and urban communities by awakening the potential of their creative voice. As a 2025 Creative Expression Grant recipient, Caldera plans to use its funding toward its Phenomena Capacity Building Project.
“At Caldera, we have spent the better part of the last 28 years connecting vulnerable youth to creativity, mentors, intercultural community, and the natural world. As a result, youth develop their ability to recognize opportunity when it arises and create opportunity when they imagine it. With promoters of creativity, like the PGE Foundation, Caldera can grow and amplify impact to support flourishing communities, one young person at a time.”
The PGE Foundation is also proud to support two first-time Creative Expression Grant awardees bringing more art and culture to Central Oregon.
Bend Pops Orchestra offers free concerts in Deschutes County and Harney County, addressing scarcity of orchestral music in rural Oregon. The orchestra is comprised of more than 60 of Central Oregon’s amateur, semi-professional, and professional musicians who are active throughout the Central Oregon area.
The Scalehouse Gallery in Bend is committed to accessible art that connects audiences to new ideas and experiences with direct access to artists.
“Integrating arts and culture into educational and community programs isn’t just about creativity—it’s about unlocking better community outcomes,” said PGE Foundation Executive Director Kregg Arntson. “These organizations are helping young people build essential skills like communication, problem-solving, and empathy through immersive artistic and cultural experiences—opportunities that some people in these communities might not otherwise have access to.”
