Resetting Your Home's Circuit Breaker

Sometimes, restoring power can be as simple as resetting your home's circuit breaker.

If you are unsure of how to reset your breakers or are physically unable to do so, please ask a neighbor or friend to help. If you can't find your breaker or your main breaker will not reset or stay in place, please call us at 503-464-7777 to speak with our Customer Service team.


Locating your breaker:

The panel box containing your breaker is usually located in an easily accessible area.

Common places to check inside your home include:

  • Basement

  • Laundry room

  • Garage

  • Under a staircase

  • Hallway

  • Storage closet

  • Kitchen pantry

Resetting your breaker:

  1. Turn off the main breaker.

  2. Turn off the smaller breakers.

  3. Turn on the main breaker.

  4. Turn on the smaller breakers.

Resetting the outside breaker:

This is usually applicable if you live in a commercial building, manufactured home, mobile home or apartment.


How to:

The main panel is located inside your home, while another breaker may be found outside.

  1. After resetting your inside breaker, locate the outside breaker — typically found next to or beneath the meter.

  2. If you find the breaker in the "Off" position, switch it to "On".
