Market-based Pricing

Prior election window

The November election window concluded at 5 p.m., Nov. 23, 2020. If you left standard service pricing during the November election window, you will default to Daily pricing unless PGE receives a Direct Access Service Request.

Upcoming election window

The next opportunity to modify your pricing plan selection will be during the February election window, which will be open from 8 a.m. Feb. 16 through 5 p.m. Feb. 18. Changes are effective April 1, 2021. During this window you may choose to leave PGE’s standard service. To determine if you are eligible, read our FAQ.

Depending on your organization’s management strategy, you may want to consider a market-based pricing plan.

You can choose:

  • how long you want to be on a market-based plan

  • who you buy electricity from

These choices can have a significant and long-term impact on your company’s future energy costs, so it’s important to have the information you need to make the best decision for your business.

FAQs about your electricity supply choices PGE

Your options

Stay on PGE’s standard service. It’s open to all businesses within our service area and you don’t need to take any action or sign contracts to stay on it.

Choose market-based power for the short term. In November, you can opt to get electricity on the open market for as little as one year, through PGE’s Daily Market Pricing or through a third-party Electricity Service Supplier (ESS).

Choose market-based power for the long term. In September, you can opt to get electricity on the open market for three or five years* through PGE's Daily Market Pricing or through a third-party ESS. New load of at least 10 MWa can get a place in the queue for New Load Direct Access beginning April 15, 2019 at 8 a.m. (PST). Email PGE at, and include your company’s name; requester’s name, title, and contact information; and a direct statement requesting to be placed onto the queue.

Transition adjustments

If you opt for market-based power, a transition adjustment will be added to your bill. Transition adjustments are different for each election window, and can be a charge or credit, depending on the market.

PGE’s Daily Market Pricing

Your prices are based on the Intercontinental Exchange Mid-Columbia (Mid-C) Daily on- and off- peak Electricity Firm Price Index (ICE-Mid-C Firm Index).

Prices will vary, as they reflect the supply and demand in the energy market.

Daily pricing information is available for a fee at PGE and in other financial publications.

Direct Access through an ESS

On this option, you purchase power from a third-party ESS.**

These ESSs are registered to work with PGE:

  • 3 Phases Renewables – 877-225-9802

  • Avangrid Renewables, LLC – 855 329-6053

  • Calpine Energy Solutions, LLC – 877-273-6772

  • Constellation NewEnergy – 888-635-0827

  • Shell Energy North America – 855-545-9222

They may contact you to offer their services.

Transmission and distribution fees, the public purpose charge and other standard fees regulated by the Oregon Public Utility Commission will still apply.

7 key questions to ask any supplier

Before you choose any energy company, compare offers to ensure the best option for your business, and make sure you’re comparing apples to apples when looking at rates. Start by asking any supplier:

  • What is the total cost to my business, including price per kilowatt-hour delivered to my site, plus any fees, penalties or other charges?

  • Are there minimum or maximum energy purchase restrictions?

  • Can my price change, and if so, how will I be notified?

  • Do I have to schedule power use ahead of time?

  • What happens if at any point you aren’t able to meet my energy needs?

  • What are my recourse options if something goes wrong?

  • What can you offer to support my corporate sustainability goals?

*Depending on eligibility. See our FAQ or contact your PGE representative.

**PGE cannot guarantee the accuracy of ESS claims and their ability to serve load now or in the future.
