Heat pump fits in remodeling plans
Incentives and tax credits make it more affordable.
To spiff up his Sandy home, George Stanley’s remodeling list includes new paint, windows and flooring. But thanks to a tip from PGE, he’s also improving his home’s comfort and performance with a new high-efficiency heat pump.

The original, 1975 forced-air electric furnace was “old and tired” and the home lacked central air conditioning.

A letter from PGE explained how a high-efficiency heat pump system can use up to 40 percent less electricity than a standard electric furnace while providing year-round heating and cooling. George followed up with Honke Heating & Air Conditioning, a PGE-approved contractor.

Tax credits and cash-back help
The new heat pump, installed in June, earned $2,640 in federal and state tax credits and incentives from PGE and Energy Trust of Oregon.

“This summer, it was real hot outside,” George says, “but it was cool and comfortable in the house.”
