Support for Education

We believe a solid educational system is the foundation for a healthy community, an educated workforce and a thriving economy.

That’s why PGE and the PGE Foundation strongly support education in Oregon — from kindergarten through college — focusing on electrical safety, sustainability, math and science achievement, service learning, college scholarships and preparing students for the workforce.

PGE contributes to a wide variety of educational programs. Our employees and retirees serve as volunteers and mentors for hundreds of students by serving on school committees, foundations and boards, and by providing direct support in the classroom.

The Oregon Public Utility Commission has recommended that all grade school students in Oregon receive electrical safety education twice during their school years. As an electric utility, PGE is uniquely qualified to help with this education. We offer educators free teaching materials and classroom presentations on electrical safety and energy efficiency and the science behind them. PGE also offers a variety of online educational resources for students, parents and teachers, such as the interactive Electrical Safety World.

In addition, PGE supports a number of education initiatives aimed at strengthening Oregon’s public schools through leadership on governing and advisory boards and committees.

At the university level, we’re the largest supporter of the Oregon Independent College Foundation, annually awarding 38 scholarships to 10 private Oregon Colleges.
