UNITY Service: Multiple Utility Installation

Save time and take the hassle out of utility installations by ordering UNITYSM service, a joint effort between PGE and Northwest Natural.

You make only one call to install multiple utilities, and the work will be started within seven working days. This eliminates the need to deal with separate utility companies, saving you time and eliminating problems coordinating utility service installation.

As many as four utilities are installed in one ditch at one time. (UNITY is optional for phone and cable TV service.) This means more timely installation, less on-site excavation, and less chance of damage to curbs and landscape. That’s less hassle and paperwork for you.

What do we provide?

  • Trenching and backfilling* 
  • Coordinating the installation of electric, gas, telephone and cable TV in one trench, at one time
  • Installing the gas meter, ready for the customer to light** 
  • Installing the permanent pedestal cover
  • Remove the temporary service unit

*Note: Additional charges may apply to excavation through rock, steep or unusual terrain, excessive depth, manual digging, and installation of conduit under driveways or concrete. In these instances, customers may be required to furnish trench and/or conduits.

**Note: A large home may require a two pound gas meter and additional installation time after the original crew has installed the line.

How a job qualifies
UNITY multiple utility installation service requires that the electric meter base and the gas meter be located no more than 10 feet from the front corner of the house, on the side closest to the PGE power source. A minimum of 3 feet of clearance is required between the electric meter base and the gas meter. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

Guarantee for phone and cable TV wire
If telephone and cable TV wire are requested, the crew will do a visual inspection at the time of installation. Both ends of the installation will be clearly visible, either by taping a coiled tail to a telephone pedestal or by coiling the tail inside a section of PVC pipe and stubbing it beside your electric meter base and on the property line.

Please verify the installation of the telephone cable after we have installed your service. UNITY will only be responsible for the integrity of the cable for five working days after your service guarantee date. On many occasions UNITY has been notified that damage has occurred to the cable after installation. The damage may have occurred long after the date of installation by other contractors working at the job site or landscapers working near the house or property line where the cable was originally stubbed up. In these cases, the builder or the party who damaged the telephone cable will be responsible for repair or replacement of damaged cables.

UNITY TwoPlus schedule service
UNITY participants currently receive notice the day before a UNITY crew arrives. Whether you order online or by phone, if you have two or more jobs ready for gas or electric service and the jobs are in the same subdivision, PGE will review its schedule and determine a specific day for UNITY installation. With UNITY TwoPlus schedule service, you will receive that scheduling information within 48 hours from when you request service, and as always, UNITY will call with a reminder the day before scheduled service.
